Laid off due to COVID19

I went to work like millions of Americans did yesterday morning keeping one eye on the news, another on the decreasing morning commute traffic, and the third eye on what management was going to do.

It was a crazy day in retrospect, the news of business closures and institutions like the NBA shutting down seem to take a whole week before it came to my doorstep. I was working as a project manager for a small business so we worked on tight margins even in a booming economy. That day as we all stared blankly at our computer screens (all work had been on a standstill for a week at least), I could feel the tension from management. I'm sure countless others struggled with the sudden layoffs that they had to have in order to survive. I was grateful for the severance pay however the uncertainty of the coming days was difficult to hide from my face. The most disadvantaged amongst us are those lower wage workers that don't have health insurance, don't have any savings yet still have the same responsibilities heaped on them. I feel solidarity with those less fortunate than me because I know from whence I came and where I'm headed. I immediately sought out work and took the temperature of the market only to find that EVERYONE is uncertain right now.
